Renaissance Pavilion

RIBA International Competition Entry, 2008

This international architecture competition was organised by Yorkshire Foreward in partnership with the RIBA. Architects were asked to design a flexible pavilion that could be adapted for a variety of events at different locations in the Yorkshire area:

‘Competitors were invited to develop an inspirational and demountable structure, providing flexible spaces to host community, cultural and civic events, which will enable greater community engagement, continue to promote the role of design quality within economic development in the region, and promote ownership and pride in our public places.’

AY Architects responded with a modular light-weight timber structure that could be erected, demounted, packed and moved easily according to need. This temporary building could expand in size and change in opacity to accommodate different event requirements, including evening performances.
