Our research on ceramic tiles derives from studying closely Victorian mouldings and ceramics. It is based on drawings of typical moulding details and the systematic manipulation of these details to create a new tile type. One of our aims is to explore how variation, rhythm and light can enrich a repetitive configuration.
The project is ongoing and involves hands-on experimentation with different casting techniques, clay types and glazes. The images below show foam prototypes and 3D prints at different sizes, made before the ceramic casts.
